Help & FAQ

How each part of the app works, section by section.

Getting started

How do I get started?
  1. Once you are here, start by going to Settings and adding the Portfolio you want to record your trades in.
  2. Then go to the Equity Curve page and add your actual invested capital (Equity).
  3. (In development) Import your data through the Export function.
How trades are counted

One position counts as one trade. For example, buying stock A in 3 lots and selling in 2 lots is 5 Executions in total, not 5 trades.

What you have to fill in

Symbol, entry date, entry price and size. The rest is optional. Expected Profit and Stop Loss are used to calculate the R-Multiple.

How does the app know a trade is closed?

From the exit date and exit price. If both are still blank the trade is treated as open — it is not counted in the statistics yet, and it appears under Unrealized Profit.

Dashboard

What is the Net/Gross button?

Gross calculates from profit before trading costs such as commission and fees. Net calculates from profit after those costs have been deducted.

Why is there no current stock price?

You have to enter the closing price of each trade yourself, because the app is not connected to a market price feed.

Trades

How do I add a trade?

Press +New Trade at the bottom left, then enter the buy/sell price and the buy/sell date. Tags and the Action Plan can be added straight away or later.

How do I record buying or selling in several lots?

Open that stock's trade, go to Edit Trade, choose Add execution, and fill in the details.

What happens if I delete a trade?

That trade's data, including its Executions and the Tags linked to it, is permanently lost and cannot be recovered.

Open Positions

What is this page?

A summary of the trades that have not been sold yet, together with their current cost value. There is no market price feed yet.

Equity Curve

Where does the starting balance come from?

From the deposits and withdrawals you have entered, combined with the profit and loss figure at that point in time. It moves up and down every time there is a change in the portfolio.

How is Drawdown calculated?

From the highest point the Equity Curve has ever reached down to the lowest point after that. It reflects closed trades only — a trade that is still open is not included in the Equity Curve.

Overall Statistics

How is this calculated?

From closed trades only.

What is "How do you compare?"

It compares your portfolio's compound return (CAGR) against the published trailing 10-year and 20-year returns of real indices and funds.

How is the monthly return table calculated?

From the profit made in that month, measured against the actual capital held in that month.

What does each metric mean?

You can look them up on the Glossary page.

Account Statistics

What is this page?

If you have several portfolios, this page puts each portfolio's statistics side by side instead of making you switch between them.

Tags Analysis

What should I tag?

Tag the things you want to compare later — the Setup you used, the buy/sell signal you acted on, and so on.

What is Min Trades?

The minimum number of times a Tag has been used, so you can filter Tags by it.

What is the Simulator?

A tool for checking how the Equity Curve would look with or without a given Tag.

Action Plan

What is an Action Plan?

A checklist for going through the trading conditions of each strategy.
